You’re a pot!

At church on Sunday Cissie shared with us that God had spoken to her through this verse in Isaiah.

“Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

Isaiah 64:8

God is the potter and we are the clay, he moulds us and shapes us. But not only does he do that, much like the potter and the clay, when things start to go wrong he can squash us back down and build us up from scratch again. I find it amazing that God is willing to keep working on us, sometimes we let him down but he will mould us and shape us to be exactly what he needs us to be if we let him.

He also gives us everything we need, just like the potter adds water to make the clay mouldable, God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit and we can be filled with living water. If we fill ourselves with the things that God wants us to then we can be mouldable clay and be shaped in to the best possible pot we can be.

This isn’t always an easy task though, a pot has to be kiln dried in a furnace to harden it and make it strong. Sometimes we need to walk through the fire to get strong too, and through trials and difficulties we can become like the kiln dried pot, hardened and ready for our purpose. God doesn’t inflict bad things upon us but the Bible says that he works all things together for our good, which means a bad situation can be turned in to and opportunity to learn and glorify God.

I hope that I can remain like the good clay, ready to be moulded and that you all can too and just remember when things are heating up, you might be hardening in the furnace!
