Serve in humility

The situation that we are in with the coronavirus outbreak is like nothing I’ve ever known and many generations before me have echoed that same feeling. It’s a time of uncertainty but we have one constant in our lives and that’s God. In the face of adversity, persecution and even death, Jesus continued to serve those around him until his last breath.

How do we as the church follow that example?

Philippians 2:3-4 New International Version (NIV)

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

This verse in Philippians tells us that we should serve each other from a place of humility and put the needs of others above our own. When we look around at the panic buying culture that has consumed our country and many others around the world it doesn’t reflect the attitude that is being conveyed to the Philippians. We need to turn away from this attitude and make sure we focus on the way that God wants us treat others.

Here are a few action points for us all:

  • Take some time today to reflect on what your own needs are and what the needs of those around you are.

  • How can we put the needs of others before our own? (Pray about this question and put the answer into action)

This is the time for the Church to show the world who were made to be. Love one another, serve one another and demonstrate the love of God in all that you are and do.
